After our first journey to Grand Prismatic, the rain let up enough that we decided to go for a small hike. Chappy figured that as long as we had time and were there, we should at least do some hiking. Being the natural outdoorswoman that i am, I said sure :) For the first three quarters of a mile I did nothing but constantly check around us for oncoming bears. Clearly there were none. We hiked to this place called Ferry Falls, which turned out to be quite pretty, and we saw some sweet yellow bellied marmats along the way (don't ask me what a marmat is, I can only describe it as half squirrel, half beaver). The closest we came to an animal was when two marmats were chasing each other and one of them ran at us by accident, stopped when it got close, looked at us like "WTF?!?!" and ran away.
On the way back, we passed by Grand Prismatic in the distance and since it was nicer out, Chappy noted that you could probably see it better. We then heard voices coming from on top of the cliff like thing she wanted to hike up before, and she stopped. I looked at her and said (as though I were sacrificing my life), "do you want to go up?" She said yes, and turns out it was well worth it. Obviously there were no animals and we got an absolutely stunning view of the lake. That just shows you sometimes it's worth it to compromise...you might get to see a really cool lake.
my mental picture right now is Chappy leading the way trough the forest trail and Cara 2 inches behind her constantly scanning from left to right looking for bears & I'm laughing out loud
